The 2010 FIFA World Cup Final promises to be quite an occasion, with the Netherlands pitting their wits against reigning European champions Spain. Both sides have produced some good football during their campaigns and have been rewarded with the chance to add their nation's names to the select list of former winners: Uruguay, Italy, Germany, Brazil, England, Argentina and France.

Netherlands-Spain, Final, Soccer City, Sunday 11 July, 20.30 (local time)

As a glance at the head-to-head record between the two nations shows, tipping a winner is no easy task. Both sides have won four of their nine meetings, with the other game ending in a draw. The Oranje have been here before, reaching the Finals at Germany 1974, with Johan Cruyff, and Argentina 1978, without him, and losing to the hosts on both occasions. For Spain, however, this is new territory, although their confidence at rising to the occasion will be high after ending a 44-year trophy drought at UEFA EURO 2008.

The Netherlands' record at South Africa 2010 could hardly be more impressive: six wins in six games with 12 goals scored and five conceded. For their part Vicente del Bosque's men have strung together five wins in a row after kicking off with a surprise defeat. But while the Spaniards have found goals hard to come by, scoring just seven in total, they have been far more miserly in defence, letting in just two so far. The winners will also end an old hoodoo, with no European side having ever won the biggest prize in world football outside the old continent.

Representing England is Premier League official Howard Webb, who has already one major final under his belt in last season's Champions League Final between Bayern Munich and Inter. Meanwhile, Germany's Miroslav Klose (14) is chasing not only the Golden Boot, but also a chance to overtake Brazil legend Ronaldo (15) as the World Cup's greatest ever goalscorer if he can overcome a back injury. The Germans may not like their success in this game, but they have picked up three third-place awards already - in 1934, 1970 and 2006 - with Bastian Schweinsteiger's brace making them 'reigning champions' in that respect.

The FIFA General Secretary Jérôme Valcke and adidas Group CEO Herbert Hainer today officially announced the 10 nominees for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ adidas Golden Ball. The adidas Golden Ball is the official FIFA trophy for the “Best Player of the Tournament”. The ten nominated players were selected by the FIFA Technical Study Group and includes football experts such as Kalusha Bwalya, Christian Karembeu, Jomo Sono and Gérard Houllier.

Accredited media representatives will vote to determine the winners of the adidas Golden, Silver and Bronze ball awards on FIFA.com. The winners will be announced after the final on 11 July.

While no side has scored more goals in the tournament than Germany’s 13, the statistics show that Spain have done more attacking than anyone. If those two pieces of information are anything to go by, this should be quite a match. The Germans have been nothing short of spectacular in South Africa. After putting four past Australia in the group phase, they clicked into top gear in the Round of 16, overwhelming England 4-1 with their rapid counter-attacking style and then put another four past Argentina in the quarters.

Though Spain have reached a semi-final for the first time ever, they have been unable to match the exacting standards they have set for themselves in recent times, reproducing their eye-catching possession football only sporadically. Victors by a single goal in their last three games, the European champions can justifiably point to some massed defences as the reason for their reduced creativity, but there will be no excuses for a lack of spark come kick-off time on Wednesday.

All the indications are that Vicente del Bosque will keep faith with the XI that started against Paraguay, which means a reprieve for the misfiring Torres, who has yet to score. As for opposite number Low, his most pressing problem is to find a replacement for the suspended Thomas Muller, with Piotr Trochowski, Toni Kroos and Cacau all in the frame.

Miroslav Klose vs David Villa

The leading marksman at South Africa 2010 with five of his country’s six goals, the Spanish striker is just one away from joining Raul as La Roja’s top scorer of all time. No less important to his team than the in-form Villa, Klose is closing on another record. The German forward needs to find the back of the net one more time to draw level with Brazil’s Ronaldo as the leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup finals history with 15 goals. One behind the Spaniard in the South Africa 2010 charts, Klose has not given up hope of making off with the adidas Golden Boot as well.

After the drama and tension of their penalty shoot-out victory over Ghana in the quarter-finals, Uruguay are in the last four at the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 40 years. La Celeste fell 3-1 to eventual winners Brazil at Mexico 1970, and went on to finish fourth. Holland, who staged a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat five-time winners Brazil in the last eight, previously fought through to the semis in 1974, 1978 and 1998.

The teams’ solitary previous meeting at the FIFA World Cup came in the 1974 tournament. Johnny Rep fired a brace as the celebrated Dutch ensemble spearheaded by the great Johan Cruyff won the group stage encounter 2-0. The Uruguay squad that day included defender Pablo Forlan, father of current La Celeste marksman Diego Forlan.

Ahead of Tuesday’s clash, Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez and Netherlands supremo Bert van Marwijk are both mulling over enforced changes to their winning teams. For the South Americans, Jorge Fucile and Luis Suarez are suspended, and captain Diego Lugano is rated very doubtful with bruising and a stretched knee ligament. Young Nicolas Lodeiro will play no further part in South Africa after breaking a foot. For the Dutch, Van Marwijk is without suspended pair Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong.

Our two players to watch may not cross paths that often on the field of play, but the spotlight still falls on the respective teams’ leading scorers. Forlan shares top spot in the Celeste goalscoring list with Suarez, but the latter can only watch from the stands after his red card against Ghana. The task of piercing the Dutch defence thus falls fairly and squarely to Forlan, now up to 27 goals for his country, and whose three strikes at the current tournament have all come against African sides.

His Holland counterpart Sneijder also has four goals, and rates as an equally creative orchestrator of the Oranjes’ versatile forward line. The world already knew all about Sneijder’s flawless technique and visionary passing, but his lethal finishing has taken many people by surprise.

His high work rate and endless harassment of defenders was enough to retain a place in the team ahead of Diego Milito and Sergio Aguero and now that he has added a goalscoring touch there is no stopping the Manchester City striker.

Germany player to watch:
Mesut Ozil- The Werder Bremen player has brought a touch of finesse and improvisation to the German midfield and was a key part of their crushing 4-1 victory over England in the last round. The youngster was a constant thorn in the side of the English defence, with his off-the-ball movement pulling players out of position and his clever passing opening avenues for the other attacking players. Ozil assisted the fourth and final goal in the 4-1 win, and also created four other goalscoring chances for his team-mates.

Paraguay player to watch:
Cristian Riveros- Sunderland's new signing is the hub around which Paraguay's midfield operates. He offers a mix of sharp tackling, box-to-box running and an excellent pass-and-move game. La Albirroja have used him on the left of a three-man midfield to control and win the ball back and he will have to be at the peak of his powers against Spain's much vaunted midfield duo of Xavi and Andres Inieista. So far he has met every challenge.

Spain player to watch:
Xavi- The best playmaker in world football has already created more chances, played more successful passes and had more touches of the ball than any other Spanish player since 1966 so it would be incredibly difficult to overstate his importance to the team. His passing range is unmatched and his awareness of what is going on around him gives him the vision to pick out a killer pass. He created eight goalscoring chances in his last match against Portugal alone and no player has created more in a single game at this World Cup.

Nike Green Teams- Brasil vs Holland

The Brasil versus Holland match has been dubbed the 'Green Game', with Nike delivering enhanced performance with reduced environmental impact for the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Robinho. The jerseys are made entirely from recycled polyester, each one directly produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.

For this summer’s World Cup finals, the Nike kits are more lightweight and have been designed to keep players drier, cooler and more comfortable, allowing them to maintain an optimum body temperature and perform at their best on the pitch.

What's more impressive is that Nike have achieved all this with their environmental impact in mind. Nike’s fabric suppliers have sourced discarded plastic bottles from Japanese and Taiwanese landfill sites, and then melted them down to produce new yarn that was ultimately converted to fabric for the jerseys.

Holland player to watch:
Wesley Sneijder- The creative heart of the Dutch team, Sneijder has shown exceptional craft and vision in supplying Arjen Robben in the last two matches. He enjoyed a hugely successful campaign at club level and he appears desperate to prove a point following his release from Real Madrid last summer.

Brasil player to watch:
Robinho- Having been selected in a weakened Manchester City side against Scunthorpe at Glanford Park in January, few could have predicted Robinho's turnaround in fortunes. A loan spell at Santos provided him with regular football and restored his confidence, and he is again starting to look like the player who cost £32.5 million two years ago. His man-of-the-match performance against Chile was no flash in the pan, and he is likely to test the Dutch defence to its limits.

Louis Vuitton FIFA World Cup Trophy Case

Louis Vuitton today unveiled the travel case it has created to hold football’s greatest prize, the FIFA World Cup Trophy.

Commissioned by FIFA, the special order case, handmade by a single master craftsman in Louis Vuitton’s historic Asnières workshop near Paris, has been meticulously designed to accommodate the celebrated Trophy, which measures 36 cm in height, weighs 6.175 kg and is made of solid 18-carat gold with a base of semi-precious malachite. Covered in Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram canvas, the travel case is fitted with the company’s signature brass lock and corners, and has a dark brown lining that complements the Trophy’s rich gold.

Like all Louis Vuitton special orders, the FIFA World Cup Trophy case was made at the company’s original workshop in Asnières, which opened in 1859. South Africa- Moses Mabhida Stadium In Durban

South Africa plays the host country of the 19th World Cup tournament, having beaten nations such as Morocco and Egypt in the bidding process. Five new stadiums were built to accommodate the 32 teams that will compete. Of the five new stadiums, the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban has the largest capacity at 70,000 spectators.

Roy Zipstein traveled to the port city to capture the magnitude of the multi-use stadium. The soaring arch runs 350m long and and 106m high above the pitch. Symbolically, the arch represents a divided nation becoming united. The design was also inspired by the South African flag. Construction began in 2007 and was completed November, 2009, lead by the consulting German architectural firm von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The Ibhola Lethu Consortium (ILC) was responsible for the design and project management of the stadium. Schlaic, Bergermann und Partner (sbp) served as conceptual structural engineers. 32 South African architectural firms were also enlisted.

The first World Cup match to be played at the stadium is on June 13th, 2010 at 20:30, Germany versus Australia in Group D. The Moses Mabhida Stadium will also host a semi-final match on July 7th, 2010 at 20:10.

The adiCup Japan pack is not just a simple slapping of two brand logos, but is designed with both Houyhnhnm and Masterpiece Sounds aesthetics and artistic direction in mind. The pack of canvas bag, sneakers and jersey are predominantly yellow and green, playing into Masterpiece Sound’s reggae influences. Masterpiece Sounds is quite interesting for a Japanese band, as they not only sing mainly in English, they also cover some classic tunes with their signature summery reggae vibes. Aside from co-branded logos on either sleeve, the jersey is very much about peace. On the botton right on the shirt are characters for “anti-war” bubbling alongside a smiley face. Nike have just released an exclusive Elite Series soccer boot for this summers World Cup in South Africa. One of the main strategies behind the new releases is to have all Nike endorsed players wearing the same footwear at the World Cup, and from first look there is no doubting that you will be able to pick them out by their footwear! Nike’s big 4 (the CTR360, Tiempo III, Superfly II and T90 Laser III) have all had an extreme style makeover that includes a touch up of paint and a tummy tuck (ie reduced weight!)

In terms of color, this range comes in an incredibly noticeable Metallic Mach Purple and Total Orange. Nike came up with the new color and design through extensive testing and player feedback. The idea of the new color is to take visual technology to the next level, allowing you to notice a player by the color of his boots. This is an area of the market that has never really been exploited (or if it has, no one really knew they were touching on new technology until Nike claimed it for themselves!) and makes complete sense from a marketing perspective. Ultimately, I am not sure if it is really going to work if a defender and a forward are wearing the same Elite series boot, but either way the concept is intriguing.

Another area that Nike have really focused on is weight. Reducing weight means a player is expending less energy on the field. Although a few ounces is not going to make any significant difference, it is an area that can give a player a positive mental advantage. It wouldn't be a World Cup year without an elaborate Pepsi advert, and this year they've gone for a body paint campaign which includes a TV commercial filmed in Africa and highlighting the talents of the featured football stars.

Chelsea and the Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba commented: "When Pepsi Max first approached me with the idea of using body paint as a way to bring to life their campaign this year I thought it was brilliant idea. In every football stadium around the world you see colour in the stands, but more so in African Stadiums where fans often use body paint to show their support for their team. Putting paint on the players was a great way to show our love for the game and I think the results are amazing.”

Adidas Champions League Final 2010 Match Ball

The UEFA Champions League match ball for the final match of the Champions League 2009/10 season has now been released. The Finale Madrid ball will be used just for the final at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid on Saturday the 22nd of May 2010– 20:45 CET.

The ball marks a small anniversary. It is the 10th year that adidas produces a special Finale ball for the Champions League final. The 2010 edition of the ball features all emblems of the previous 9 Finale balls in order to celebrate this anniversary.

The choice of colors to suit a Spanish context is red for Spain and white for Madrid. The link to Madrid through the white color might be slightly dubious (white is often used as background color in order to create a contrast – but what has that got to do with Madrid?). Red is often associated with Spain though. Red is found in the flag, in the red wine, in the blood from the bull fighting , the heat , the burned soil etc.

However, due to the fact that the ball is a special anniversary ball the local influence in the design is somewhat downplayed compared to previous editions of the Finale ball. But nevertheless there is all a special logo for the Madrid 2010 Champions League Final just as has been the case in the past.

The logo incorporates the sandy, dusty, dry colors of La Mancha. The plateau where Madrid is located and where the soil is very dry and has this golden red color. One can see some patterns similar in style to tradition Spanish art work and a couple of footballs are also present in order to make the connection to the Champions League. And of course “the trophy with the big ears” which it is all about is also portrayed in the graphic.

Recent work by photographer and Bradford City supporter, Neil Bedford's "City 'til I die" series. "These were shot during 2009. The project was the for the MA I was studying at the London College of Fashion and started with a portrait of my Uncle, who has the City Gent tattooed on his left arm. I found most sitters during the summer months at Valley Parade when their tattoos were visible. Others came from football forums and friends of friends'."

The City Gent is the most iconic image associated with Bradford City, introduced in 1966 at a time when English football clubs attempted to emulate the example of the World Cup Willie and launched their own characters to present a more modern face to the sport.

Nike has been gearing up in all literal and metaphorical sense the players and fans. Puma Unveils Italy World Cup Shirts

The Italy Puma World Cup 2010 home and away kits have officially been launched. While both kits have been on sale since late last week, on Monday, March 1st, 2010 the kits were officially presented to the public via a joint press conference between Puma and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in Florence, Italy.

The iconic azzurro blue kit emblazoned with four stars- one for each World Cup™ they have won- will be worn by Italy as they defend their title at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ South Africa this summer. The new PowerCat home shirt design will be endorsed exclusively by Italy at the World Cup…

The new kits are part of PUMA’s PowerCat 1.10 collection, including the statement football boot the PowerCat 1.10. Staying true to tradition, the colors of the home kit is Italy’s classic azzurro blue with white details. The away kit is the traditional white with blue and gold details. Nike Introduces 2010 National Team Kits

Nike’s national teams including Brazil, Portugal, USA, South Korean, Australia, Serbia, New Zealand, Slovenia and The Netherlands will be going living and playing green this year as the team kit’s jerseys are made entirely from recycled polyester. Each jersey is produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles sourced from Japanese and Taiwanese landfill sites. The bottles are melted down to produce new yarn for the jerseys.

While the idea may sound like a compromise in technical performance, with Nike, that’s an obsolete concern. For summer finals, the kits were designed with the improved Nike Dri-Fit fabric to keep players drier, cooler and more comfortable to keep their performance at an optimum. The new Dri-Fit is 15% lighter than previous fabric and draws sweat outside the garment where it evaporates. Also, ventilation zones created from 200 tiny laser cuts backed by Nike’s halo application on the side increases airflow to the player’s torso. The ventilation zones are also found on the matching kit shorts.

Other key items include a new double knit structure on jerseys, which keep the tops sleek while giving it 10% more stretch than the previous jerseys. Nike Pro Combat is also incorporated into the team kits’ items such as the Slider and Impact shorts to protect players against impact and abrasion.
An interesting tidbit about the eco-minded jerseys– Nike prevented nearly 13 million plastic bottles (254,000 kg of polyester waste) from going to landfill. This amount is enough to cover more than 29 football pitches, and if jerseys made from this were laid from end to end, it would be enough to cover the entire coastline of South Africa.

Of course, all jerseys were designed with the country’s national and cultural identity in mind with corresponding colors and motifs to showcase each nation’s unique heritage.

Sure the player loyalties lies each to his own, but all Nike players work for the bigger picture of sustainability and the environment this year, while putting their game face on for the world.

Nike called upon Brazilian superstar Alexandre Pato to unveil the brand new home shirt of five-time World Champions Brasil. The new home jersey is predominately yellow with a green round neck collar and a single green stripe running down the shoulders and sleeves. Manufacturers Nike place their green “swoosh” logo in the top right of the jersey whilst the national badge is situated in the top left. Five green stars are positioned above the badge to represent their five World Cup successes.

The new away jersey is predominately blue with numerous yellow dots scattered all over the body. The collar is a yellow round neck and a single yellow stripe runs down both shoulders. Manufacturers Nike place their white “swoosh” logo in the top right of the jersey whilst the national badge is situated in the top left. Five white stars are placed above the badge to represent Brazil’s five World Cup triumphs.

Brand new Holland Away Football Shirt is mainly all White. There is a red and blue chevron across the chest. The collar of the shirt is also blue. The team badge is on the left of the chest and the makers, Nike, have their logo on the right in blue. The shirt will be worn with blue shorts and white socks. Celtic FC and Holland man Edson Braafheid was on hand to model the new Oranje away strip.

The new Selecção das Quinas away kit was is predominately white with two stripes running down the centre of the body. The right stripe is green whilst the left stripe is red. Manufacturers Nike place their green “swoosh” logo in the top right of the jersey and the national badge is situated in the top left. Other details include a green patch on the edge of the sleeves and a green squad number that intercepts the central stripes in the middle of the jersey. Manchester United midfielder Nani was on hand to model the new Portuguese away strip.

Australia new away jersey is predominately navy blue with a lighter blue upper body and sleeves. There is a yellow band running horizontally across the chest whilst there are yellow patches on the edges of the sleeves. Manufacturers Nike place their yellow “swoosh” logo in the top right of the jersey whilst the national badge is situated in the top left. Blackburn Rovers midfielder Vince Grella was on hand to model the new Australian away strip.

This unique Nike away shirt for 2010/2011, is predominately white with a faded swerved pattern etched into the background of the body. Manufacturers Nike place their dark blue “swoosh” logo in the top right of the jersey whilst the blue national badge containing a “tiger” (their nickname) is situated in the top left. Other details include blue patches on the edges of the sleeves and a white round neck collar. Bolton Wanderers midfielder Chung-Yong Lee was on hand to model the new strip.

The new Slovenia 2010 away jersey is predomiantely dark green with a light green round neck collar and light green patches on the edges of the sleeves. The main feature on the body of the shirt is a jagged horizontal light green stripe that runs across the chest. Manufacturers Nike place their light green “swoosh” logo in the top right of the jersey whilst the national badge is situated in the top left. West Bromwich Albion midfielder Robert Koren was on hand to model the new Slovenia away strip.

When they're on the road, this is the jersey Dempsey, Altidore, Donovan and the rest of the US squad rock. This new design is a nod to the 1950 World Cup match between the US and England. As seen for the first time on March 3, when the US faces Holland. Nike Sphere Dry construction ensures moisture control and cool comfort. Includes embroidered US team badge and Nike logo.

Nenaid Mkijis of Wolverhampton Wanderers was show his support for this future powerhouse, the White Eagles, by wearing their official away jersey. This jersey has an embroidered Serbia team badge at the left chest.

The new All Blacks away kit was unveiled at the Nike Write History event in London on Thursday along with the uniforms of Nike’s eight other FIFA World Cup 2010 teams. Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen was on hand to model the new Kiwi away strip.

With the old Battersea Power Station along the wharf bathed in violet lights as the backdrop, Nike Football kicked off its 2010 Football Innovation Summit in London last night with assistance from Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. A multi-facet global event which saw media from all corners of the world, the 2010 Football Innovation Summit will officially debut some of the newest offerings from Nike going into this Summer’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa, including aforementioned Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II. England 2010 World Cup Umbro Away Shirts

Umbro and the English FA have officially launched the England Umbro 2010/12 away kit. As expected, the shirt features are very similar to those of the famous one worn by Bobby Moore and company when they lifted the Three Lions’ sole World Cup title in 1966.

Under Fabio Capello, the team will be hopeful of progressing beyond the quarter finals which has been their major stumbling block in recent tournaments. The group stage draw has been kind to them with USA, Slovenia and Algeria expected to be brushed aside effortlessly. Likely opponents in the second round are either Serbia, Ghana or Australia. If the team overcomes that challenge, they may well meet France or Argentina in the quarter finals.

To celebrate the new shirt finally getting it’s inaugural game against Egypt on Wednesday, Umbro have released this stunning new picture of David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Glen Johnson showing off different aspects of the new away kit.

The new 2010 England away jersey is predominately red with white sleeve cuffs and a different darker shade of red that runs down the shoulders and sleeves. The collar is the same shade of red as the body of the uniform and is presented in a round neck style with a high back. Manufacturers Umbro place their white logo in the top right of the jersey whilst the three lions national badge is present in the top left. A single red star is sewn above the badge to represent the country’s one World Cup triumph back in 1966. Other details include white shorts with a single red side stripe, red badge and red Umbro logo. The socks are also mainly red with a white foot segment.

France 2010 World Cup Adidas Away Shirts

Now, we bring you pictures of the actual shirt from a football shirts shop. We get to have a closer look at the shirt before it is presented by the French Football Federation and kit supplier Adidas. We are expecting Adidas to unveil the new France away shirt before the French team takes on the Spanish team in a friendly match scheduled for the 3rd March at home. France start their World Cup campaign on the 11th June against Uruguay, followed by Mexico (17 June) and South Africa (22 June). The French Federation has agreed to play friendly matches against Costa Rica (Home 26 May), Tunisia (Away 30 May) and China (Home 4 June) as preparation for the World Cup.

The new away shirt will be white, with thin vertical stripes alternating between red and blue. The front and back, as well as the bottom parts of the sleeves, will be striped. The collar will be dark blue, with a golden edge. The Adidas logo will be dark blue and centralised. There will be a red stripe flanked by two blue stripes on the shoulders and sleeves as the trademark stripes on Adidas. The top part of the sleeves will be plain white, and so will the sides. On the back part of the collar, there will be the text ‘Federation Francaise de Football’ in gold. Part of the sleeve edges will also be gold.
