Newcastle To Swap Adidas For Puma

Championship table toppers Newcastle United have announced that they will be parting ways from current jersey manufacturers Adidas at the end of the 09/10 season.

Adidas, who have been associated with Newcastle United for 14 years, have become disillusioned with the negative publicity that has surrounded the club since Mike Ashley’s takeover. The global sportswear firm were also quick to distance themselves from the chairman’s controversial decision to rename St James Park which has not gone down well with supporters.

It looks as if Newcastle will agree a deal with Puma which will commence at the beginning of the 2010/11 campaign. It is thought that the club wanted to delay the news of the manufacturer change until after Christmas to ensure that jersey sales remained high around the festive period.

In other news, Newcastle are likely to be on the look out for a new jersey sponsor next season as Northern Rock’s deal with the club also expires at the end of the campaign.

FIFA World Player Of The Year 2009

Lionel Messi has been named FIFA World Player of the Year at FIFA's star-studded event in Zurich. The Barcelona and Argentina star scooped the award at the third time of being nominationed and became the first-ever Argentinian to be named FIFA World Player of the Year.

It's been an amazing year for the superstar, with trophies and accolades being bestowed upon him and his team. For Barcelona, Messi has already won three national league titles, one Copa del Rey, one European SuperCup, three Spanish SuperCups, two UEFA Champions League titles (scoring in last years showpiece final) and now the FIFA Club World Cup. Messi played an integral role as Barcelona won their first FIFA Club World Cup, scoring the winning goal in the final against Estudiantes and being named winner of the adidas Golden Ball as the best player in the competition.

He beat off competition from last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo, team-mates Xavi and Andres Iniesta and La Liga debutant Kaka. The vote was made by captains and head coaches of the men's and women's national teams, which saw Messi recieve 1,073 votes, Ronaldo 352, Xavi 196, Kaka 190 and Iniesta 134. Any arguments over who is the best player in the world are surely now redundant, with Messi beating his La Liga compatriot Ronaldo to a second accolade in a little over a month. Messi had also picked up European Footballer of the Year award by a massive margin - 473 points to 233!

Nike Total 90 Laser III

Nike takes shooting power and accuracy to the next level with the Total90 Laser III.

Bonus: Each pair comes with a unique user-code that allows online access to Nike Soccer+, where you will find accuracy training drills and expert tuition provided by the coaching team at Juventus FC. The Nike Soccer+ digital experience also has a coaching session from Fernando Torres of Liverpool FC.

Nike designers broke down the biomechanics of striking the ball into specific elements to help them design the ultimate boot for power and accuracy.

Five pods in the strike zone create a uniform contact point for a smoother surface resulting in even pressure distribution. The pods are configured as five separate units that operate as one to remain flexible and fluid.

Advanced shape-correcting memory foam provides a smooth and consistent surface to enhance accuracy when shooting.

Engineered Microfins, ie. small raised TPU fins on a honeycomb panel deliver increased friction with the ball to ensure more swerve. Each small fin is strategically angled and sized to enhance control over ball trajectory, but folds on contact with the ball to accommodate great touch and feel.

The laces have been repositioned to be more asymmetrical for a cleaner strike surface and easier fit and adjustment of the boot.

Reinforcements to the external heel counter and outsole ensure comfort and stability.

UPPER: Premium-grade synthetic leather for comfort and touch. MIDSOLE: Molded EVA with poron insert that reduces stud pressure. OUTSOLE: Lightweight TPU with optimal stud placement for stability and traction. WEIGHT: (10.2 oz.)

Hirofumi Kiyonaga’s football-inspired label F.C.R.B. also known as F.C. Real Bristol, previews a new t-shirt featuring Anime/Manga character Kojiro Hyuga from the Captain Tsubasa series. The collaboration makes sense on a range of different levels, but mostly for the added element that Captain Tsubasa revolves around the sport of football, which of course is F.C.R.B.’s forte. Three different colorways are offered in a simple manga style design, each produced onto Nike Dri-Fit tees.
